Millions of viewers in the Arab World and thousands more all over the world fell in love with Nader Guirat while watching him week after week holding his own on stage, singing aside world famous artists and making other artists’ songs his own, on the 5th season of the Arab Star Academy. Viewers and audience connected with his rich unfettered voice, his down-to-earth humble charm and shy timid nature, which is a far cry from his fiery stage presence and passionately intense performances of song and dance. So there's the whirlwind and there’s the young man at its center. Nader, who’s a tenor, won that season’s competition single-handedly and against all odds making the show’s history when he became the first victor, to-date, of the enormously popular show to seize the title by not singing in the mother tongue of the listening audience. In fact, Nader performed mostly songs in a diverse of foreign languages to his own, in English, French, Italian and Spanish as well as in Arabic. Hundreds of thousands of viewers tuned in and equally votes were cast to name Guirat that season’s winner and that evenings’ applause, which has continued since, cemented him as one of the show’s favorite artists - That, of course, set in motion the whirlwind. “I never envisioned that sudden fame could find its way to me so fast and at such a huge scale. Never did I imagine I’d be well known and recognized as a singer in the Arab World and idolized by the young generation of youth in my country in such a short time. For most performers and aspiring artists, an achievement of that magnitude would be the culmination of a dream” - Now, with the release of his début single and an album in the works, this gifted young artist is eager to show those devoted fans what he can do when he’s in charge. 2009 was a turning point in Guirat’s career, when through collaboration with Nejib Guirat, his own father, who financed the entire indie project, and the best line up of musicians assembled, Nader scored a chart-topping single of his own with the release of ‘L’Ange Perdu’ (The Lost Angel). The song, performed in French, a reprise of the famous ‘Kil El-Asayed’ by Lebanese singer/composer Marwan Khoury, but with Nader’s own interpretation, tells a story of young love, a personal experience that Nader went through as a child. “I wanted to make a classic tune, a piece of art music with a classical fusion. I wasn’t thinking about marketing or looking to gain commercial value, instead I was aiming for something refined and genuine, from the heart - a song that I can relate to". The idea was to find the best material out there that would be both well received in the Arab world while staying true to Nader’s own musical style and persona, that people came to know and love him for. And what better way than to acquire a renowned Arabic composition and create a cover version of it, give it a twist and add his personal touch. And so ‘L’Ange Perdu’ came about, a title Nader himself came up with while in midair. Nader recalls; “Between the reprise of the original composition, the music arrangement & sound mixing, recording of the vocals in Lebanon, the instrumentals in Canada, Lebanon and the Ukraine, topped with the shooting of the video on location in the Ukraine and the final editing that followed – I was breaking new ground – as we covered each stage I wasn’t sure how we were going to tie everything together.” A big part of that job fell to music arranger Michel Fadel, a veteran musician and celebrated pianist who has helmed hit albums for major artists in the region. Guirat also gives props to his songwriter, Ayman Jouadi, a fellow countryman, with whom he co-penned the song’s lyrics. The illustrious list of collaborators also includes ‘The National Symphony Orchestra of Ukraine’ and acclaimed music video director Samir Abdul Massih, who orchestrated the shoot. .............
